In its 61st recall so far this year, General Motors is calling for around 2,000 cars to be inspected by dealers for braking issues, according to The Detroit News.
The problem: GM is recalling the cars following a discussion about the braking issue with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The brake fluid used in the cars may not be able to inhibit corrosion in key components of the braking system, which could lead to eventual brake failure. This problem is related to a recall also put out for 43,500 2009-12 Hyundai Genesis sedans last October. The same brake fluid was used in those models as in the GM models, both of which were built in Korea.
Vehicles affected: 2009-10 Chevrolet Aveo and the 2009 Pontiac G3 models in the U.S are affected by the recall.
Number of vehicles being recalled: 1,968 cars are involved.
The fix: GM dealers will inspect and repair the cars as necessary. The Detroit News did not provide a timeline for repairs or information on how the repairs will be done and how long they will take. Owners should receive a recall notice in the mail shortly.
