Corvette Racing’s two C7.Rs will take to 14-turn track at Road America this weekend as they look to defend their lead in the TUDOR United Sportscar Championships overall points standings. The Corvette Racing team is no stranger to Road America, with six class victories at the circuit since 2002, the last coming six years ago in 2008.
Last year, both Corvette C6.Rs finished on the podium in the American Le Mans Series’ race at Road America. 2013 class champions Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen came second in the No. 3 car, while Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner finished third in the No. 4 car. The team will be looking for an even more impressive performance out of the drivers and the C7.R come Saturday and with the team’s continued success at Road America, they just may pull it off.
Currently, Garcia and Magnussen lead the TUDOR Championship’s GT Le Mans Class with four victories this year. Teammates Gavin, who happens to be a four-time pole winner at Road America, and Milner are fifth. With 219 points, Corvette Racing currently sits just ahead of SRT Motorsports and their SRT Viper, which has 206 points.
“Corvette Racing has a very good history at Road America in the ALMS and with our testing program for Le Mans,” said Garcia. “Jan and I finished second last year in the final race there with the Corvette C6.R. I am hoping the testing we have done with the C7.R last year and in May will give us that little bit we need to capture victory.”
Corvette Racing program manager Doug Fehan recognized the daunting task a high-speed track like Road America presents, but said he the team are still looking forward to the challenge.
“There are so many reasons to love Road America, not the least of which is the racing. Four miles of extreme speed, huge elevation changes and some of the greatest corners in North America make this place one of our favorites,” Fehan said. “Not to mention this is the site of the very first Corvette Corral. Our fans here know exactly what challenges we are now facing. Rest assured, we are going to collect as many points as we possible can to stay atop the rankings in the run for our third straight championship.”
Corvette Racing and the C7.R will take to the track on Sunday, August 10 at 6:30 p.m. eastern time.
