Corvette Engine Build Experience Caveat For Z06 Customers

For about $5,800, a Corvette buyer can specify the Corvette Engine Build Experience, which one-ups the “pick up your car at the factory” program that exists for some manufacturers and allows the consumer to visit the engine assembly line and have a hand in assembling his/her engine. However, LSXTV.com is reporting that several 2015 Corvette Z06 buyers may not have that option.

The problem is that the LT4 motor that powers the Z06 is built in two plants – Tonawanda, NY and Bowling Green, KY – but the Experience is only available at the latter (regular Corvette buyers go to Wixom, MI for their Experience). Part of the problem is that it’s not known how many of the motors are going to be built in Bowling Green.

Sure, you can go to Germany and pick up your Porsche, but you don’t get to have a hand in building your motor. Corvette buyers may not have the luxury of going overseas to pick up their car, but it is sweet to own a bespoke Corvette and say, “Hey, I had a hand in that!” even if you’re not a UAW member.

  1. Anyone catch that GM has been able to make over 1,000 HP with a future version of the LT engine.

Word is the Corvette guys have been able to make this much power but need to find a way to put it down and to good use.

Big numbers are great but if you can’t put it all to the ground it means little.

I am glad GM is looking to do as they have been the complete package here and not just post big numbers with not using all of them.

It ain’t bragging if you can back it up.

      2. Old news. LS engines been doing this for years and poses no real problem. Very simple fix… look it up. And you’ve owned LS engines and didn’t know this ??? You still own an amazing engine. Btw, this happens to many engines due to poor PCV valve maintenance (positive crankcase ventilation). Have seen it with both Ford and GM.. as well as others.

  4. Oil blow by is very common on any engine. If it’s supercharged or turbo charged, add methanol injection, ups the octane, cools the intake charge, and cleans the intake very well 🙂 Or just get a well engineered catch can, problem solved.
