This weekend, the 2015 U.S. Sand Sculpting Championships will roll into San Diego, with contestants showing the residents of the city what they can do with just some tools and thousands of pounds worth of sand. Many of these artists can create nearly anything with some sand, so Chevy asked if they could sculpt them a full-scale 2015 Colorado pickup and they happily obliged.
To create the sand Colorado, over 75,000 lbs worth of sand was brought in. The artists worked on the vehicle for five days, working in the truck’s body lines, windows, wheel wells and more. To top it off, they used the grille, headlights, taillights, Chevrolet emblems and wheels off of the real Colorado, giving the sculpture an even more realistic look.
“It’s a great fit for the Colorado to be partnered with the U.S. Sand Sculpting Championships,” said Tony Johnson, Colorado marketing manager. “With Southern California being the largest mid-size truck market in the country, the Colorado is right at home here in San Diego.”
Check out the video below to see the sand version of the truck materialize in a mesmerizing 15 seconds. The real, metal version will arrive at dealers this fall alongside its GMC Canyon platform mate.
