Can Someone Please Buy This Replica Of The 1989 Batmobile Already?: eBay Find

The most recent Batmobile is the Tumbler, which starred in the highly successful Dark Knight and the Dark Knight Rises movies. That version of Batmobile is cool and all, but looks more fit for the military than it does a superhero. Personally, we prefer the wild-looking Batmobile from the 1989 Batman film. If you agree with us, you’ll be pleased to find out a replica of this version Batmobile has recently popped up for sale on eBay.

The Batmobile is being sold by Central Classic Cars of Sylvania, Ohio. In the listing, they say the car is based around a Corvette chassis, which we’re assuming is from the fourth-generation car considering the vehicle is listed as being a 1987 model year. Under the hood is a fuel-injected LT1 V8 engine and an automatic transmission, which can be used in conjunction with a real jet engine that was installed in the back of car. The listing says the turbo jet engine is “well engineered to the chassis,” though the previous owner had the air compressor for the starter removed for liability reasons. The seller says it could easily be hooked back up by someone with the proper know how, though.

The car is completely road legal and is titled as being a Corvette. It is being sold “as-is with no warranties or guarantees of any kind expressed or implied,” Central Classic Cars says and the owner is “looking for a straight cash sale as a priority.” So if you happen to have $150,000 cash on hand, the Batmobile could be yours. Check out the listing here for more photos and information.

  1. I heard about this beast through one of my dealer contacts. I’m with you, Sam–much prefer this to the insect-looking Tumbler of the latest films. That said, I have to be skeptical as to how “well engineered” the jet engine is to the chassis, as the listing claims. Seems like a viral video waiting to happen, ha!

  3. The average person that would purchase this vehicle might want to drive it and have fun with it, but me personally I would have a much greater cause for the car. For the last two years I have been working on a remake of the 1989 Batman movie. Since I only work at McDonald’s I would never be able to afford it. But I did drive to Chicago, Cincinnati, saint Louis, Indianapolis to film the Gotham city scenes. Ever since I was a kid, I always wanted to this car. If you type on YouTube the words: joker takes over Bruce Wayne’s plane…… you will see some of the movie. It’s unedited footage from my Batman fan film. Maybe one day I will have the 1989 bat mobile in my movie. I have made this movie for one purpose and one purpose only which is to raise money for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
