Chevrolet doesn’t offer a natural gas option for the Cruze, but Crazy Diamond Performance of Shelby Township, Mich. does. The aftermarket company’s natural gas-powered Cruze starts at $25,995 for a 1.8-liter four-cylinder LS model. LT and LTZ models, powered by a 1.4-liter turbo four-cylinder engine, start at $27,980.
With an 8.5 gasoline gallon equivalent natural gas tank, Crazy Diamond Performance promises a cruising range of up to 300 miles. The company is also backing its work with a 100,000-mile powertrain warranty.
Available for both manual and automatic transmission Cruzes, Crazy Diamond Performance promises a combined fuel economy equivalency of 34 gasoline miles per gallon.
See, this is what GM should be selling direct. I can’t buy this because California won’t take it.
And I’m not going to pay $40,000 for an Epsilon II Impala that can drive in the carpool lane. It just isn’t worth it. I could buy a Spark EV and a Pontiac G8 for that money, and multitask.
I would pay $40k had the CNG Impala been Zeta based, and I think the sales managers for Impala are now wishing my opinion had carried the day.
This would be a good competitor to the CNG Civic. They should mainstream it in house not after-market then offer it to the general public.
