2016 Chevrolet Volt Rendered

Chevrolet’s next-generation Volt is slated to make a debut at the 2015 North American International Auto Show in January, but if you can’t wait that long to see what the new extended-range EV will look like, CarScoops thinks they have a rough idea with their latest rendering.

The rendering has a sleek “wedge” profile, which makes it look somewhat like a four-door Cadillac ELR. From the side we think the mock up looks pretty good, but once you get to that catfish-looking front fascia, it all goes south. Luckily in spy shots we’ve seen of the 2016 Volt, it looked as if that front end or anything that strays too far from the design of the current-gen car won’t be implemented.

Little is currently known about the new Volt, however General Motors’ product head Mark Reuss recently said the car would have “improved fuel economy and efficiency.” That means the combined 37 mpg rating and 38 miles of all-electric driving range will likely both improve. A smaller 1.0-liter generator is expected to be used in the place of the 1.4-liter unit and smaller, better positioned battery packs are expected to allow for five passengers, not four like in the current car.

Check out Car Scoops’ rendering here and let us know what you think in the comments. Personally we don’t mind it, save for that face that only a mother could love.

    1. i save to change my saab and buy the next model of volt because i keep for a long time each car i buy. I wish this picture is a joke. i will never buy a car so ugly. i prefer buy another model used and put gas with money save. i really wish they will not change so much the actual car. except to improove the batery autonomy

  2. Looks better than outgoing Volt (which is cute), this is far more aggressive.
The real problem with first gen Volt is seating for 4 only and price.

  3. Bland?!? I don’t see how you can say that. I was thinking it looks too cool to have any chance of being close to the next Volt.
Of course, interior packaging , cost and electric range will go a long way toward determining sales.

  4. On second look, i don’t like it as much. But, it still doesn’t have the awkward look that the current car has. But the other factors I mentioned before will likely be bigger factors for sales.
