The 2016 Cadillac CTS-V has been caught by spy photographers again. Pictures of the forthcoming super sedan preparing to enter the famed Nurburgring racetrack were recently posted to automotive website AutoEvolution.
The two cars caught on film were wrapped in the same black and white camouflage that has graced previous images of the M5-figher. The grille remains a unique collection of vertical slats, and a menacing lower front fascia is prominent. And from the looks of things, what’s hiding within the fascia’s air intakes are a pair of air-to-air intercoolers.
Many have speculated that the 650 hp supercharged LT4 V8 engine will provide the firepower for this bastion of burnouts. But it’s highly unlikely, as the intercooler mounting in the spy photos is different than what we see with the LT4. This leads us to continue our conviction that the 2016 CTS-V’s engine can only be one thing: a twin-turbocharged V8.

Every time I look at spy shots I get the impression of a caged deamon doing everything in its power to break free from its prison (camo) by sticking its head and limbs out (grill, massive rear spoiler, and hood extractor)
Lets get these cars unveiled already. Its taking a long time especially the ats v. Maybe Detroit auto show in January?
I would expect Detroit or NY show for the unveil. They will not show the cars till they are around 7 months out.
I would not expect massive spoilers or crazy things. I do expect some aero elements that not only add some style but will also be functional. But refrain as this is not a Trans Am.
the grill will be changed at some point as the two jobs for a grill are this style and to keep the rock out of the radiator and condenser. This one is so open it would not deflect a soft ball. I expect a mesh of some kind since that is a element of all V series cars.
These front mounted “intercoolers” bring more questions than answers and I use the quotations because I doubt thats what they are. If its an LT4 its a top mounted intercooler I get that. The 4.5L V8 suggested in the piece that was in the Ciel or Elmiraj (cant remember) will most likely be a scaled up version of High Feature architecture which also uses a top mounted intercooler in its only twin turbo configuration, LF3. Now that being said the LF3 is very space/weight efficient and the top mounted intercooler reduces turbo lag to a great extent, less piping. Downside: 4V per cylinder, DOHC, and high mounted intercooler = high center of gravity. So possibly a TTV8 with front mounted ones to lower CG? Wouldnt help with the lag situation but i could see it as a handling bonus as the CTS-V suffers from more heft than the ATS-V or CTS V-Sport which can make due with the high CG LF3. Strangest part is that the LF3 and LT4 both use water-to-air intercoolers which are superior to air-to-air ones spotted in the article in high hp applications. So basically those are heat exchangers for something else in my mind. Anyone have some thoughts?
This, the ATS-V, and the LTS can’t come soon enough!!!! These are crucial vehicles the Cadillac brand can’t continue to operate without. They’ll define American luxury and add the level of prestige Cadillac so desperately needs right now. Even the competition is taking interest in what Cadillac is doing!!!!
I’m hoping this is revealed at NY so i can go see it in-person, but if its revealed at Detroit i’m DAMN SURE watching the online feed for the reveal. Goddamn this thing cant seem to be unveiled soon enough…
