Team Chevy’s Kyle Larson drove his No. 47 Chevrolet SS to a third place finish during the Camping World RV Sales 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway Sunday. The rookie was the only Chevy driver to place in the action-packed event, joined by race winner Brad Keselowski and runner up Kyle Busch on the podium.
Larson moved into the lead after a caution came out on Lap 112 for debris and he stayed out, while other drivers pitted for tires and fuel. By Lap 128 he had given the spot to Matt Kenseth, but overall race winner Brad Keselowski moved to the front of the pack on Lap 139. After another caution flag, Joey Logano managed to move into first position, but was soon passed and wrecked by Morgan Shepherd. This put out yet another caution flag, allowing Clint Bowyer to move into first on the restart. However Keselowski and the No. 2 car proved to be too fast, and regained the lead shortly after.
In the end, Keselowski held off Kyle Busch on a final restart and won the race by three-quarters of a second in a green-white-checker finish. Keselowski was leading Denny Hamlin by almost three seconds with four laps remaining but Justin Allgaier struck the wall, bringing out the race’s seventh caution flag and prompting the fifth green-white-checker finish of 2014.
Matt Kenseth and Team Chevy’s Ryan Newman rounded out the top five in New Hampshire. Dale Earnhardt Jr. managed a 10th place finish after a difficult race where his No. 88 Chevrolet SS couldn’t match the speed of Team Penske’s Fords and Joe Gibbs Racing’s Toyotas. Danica Patrick finished 22nd after moving between 18th and 23rd position for the majority of the race, while Jeff Gordon crossed the line 26th, holding on to his 12 point Sprint Cup Series lead over second place Dale Earnhardt Jr.
The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will move onwards to Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the Crown Royal Presents The John Wayne Walding 400 At The Brickyard. With only 17 races left in the season, the race will be crucial for any drivers who haven’t yet put themselves in a good position for the Chase for the Sprint Cup.
