Life is full of hard decisions, but few are as hard as to make as the question AutoTrader is posing with their Corvette episode of New vs Classic. If you were ever lucky enough to be presented with the opportunity to choose between the original Sting Ray, a 1963 Corvette coupe with the iconic split rear window, or the modern day C7 Corvette Stingray, what would you choose?
The timeless curves of the original Sting Ray can hardly be ignored, and the 1963 model, the only year they produced the Corvette with the split rear window, is one of the most desirable Chevys of all time. Furthermore, thanks to its relatively simple technology, 4-speed close ratio transmission and unrestricted V8 rumble, some might argue the older Corvette is more fun to drive, too.
What might make someone choose the 2014 Corvette is the pursuit of modern day performance, drivability and reliability. If you choose the new car, you’ve just acquired yourself a daily driver and a weekend toy, depending on what you choose to do with it. So, what’ll it be, the original Sting Ray or the modern day take on the classic?

We have already had this conversation here with several Corvette owners.
We all love the new car and it is great and we would love to have one. But on the other hand like in my case I love the 59 Corvette that could be had in pristine shape for a similar price as the new car. The only negative to the whole narrative is that the new car will decrease in value as the older one increases. Also the new car is a whole lot more fun to drive at the limit as it is so much easier to use and less risk of issues as an older car can have.
This is a tough one and we all decided it was best to save more money and buy both was the only answer. LOL!
I’ll take the Split Window. Old dudes and classics just go together.
The C7, no contest. It’s better than the Corvette has ever been.
