The “King of Cool,” Steve McQueen, was an actor who happened to be a motorcycle and car racer. Besides being an on-screen star, McQueen was very passionate about the vehicles he owned. One of his vehicles happened to be a 1970 Chevrolet El Camino SS 396, which is now being auctioned off at Auctions America of Burbank.
Besides being owned by Hollywood royalty, this El Camino has some great selling points as well. With only a four-owner history, the vehicle boasts a scant 26, 265 original miles. Underneath its original Hugger Orange paint, the El Camino’s 396 cubic-inch V8 is still capable of producing 350 hp and is mated to the rare Muncie four-speed transmission.
This El Camino is one out of 47,707 units built in 1970 and is one of the most prestigious that has gone on sale. With an estimated price of $100,000 to $150,000 this El Camino won’t be cheap. But the vehicle was owned by McQueen and is even being sold with the original gold key. One could say that one of the coolest El Caminos to cross an auction block.
