Normally David Freiburger and Mike Finnegan are throwing together and driving ratty, beat-up hot rods on their popular YouTube show Roadkill. This week is a little different though, as the pair are driving Finnegan’s own 1955 Chevrolet on a 2,600 miles road trip to the 2014 Hot Rod Power Tour in in Concord, North Carolina.
Finnegan’s ’55 Chevy is riding on a Jim Meyer Racing Gasser chassis and is powered by a 530 ci (8.4-liter) Mopar Hemi crate engine with a Comp cam, Fast XFI fuel injection, 10:5:1 compression and homemade headers. It’s good for 700 horsepower and 700 lb-ft of torque and surprisingly, even got 17 mpg a few times on the guy’s road trip thanks to the six-speed manual Tremec T56 transmission.
Just because they are driving a car which they actually spent some money on and took their time building, doesn’t mean Finnegan and Freiburger’s road trip goes smoothly. This is Roadkill after all. The pair break down more than once and because the ’55 Chevy doesn’t have working gauges yet, they even run out of fuel on one occasion. That doesn’t stop them from meeting up with other well known presenters such as Shawn “Murder Nova” Ellington from Street Outlaws and Rutledge Wood of Top Gear USA. Check out the episode just below.
