The guys at Hot Rod recently picked up a nice looking 1973 Chevrolet ramp truck as a project car for the magazine’s video series, Roadkill. In the below video, Hot Rod Editor-in-Chief David Freiburger and staff editor Mike Finnegan have nothing but great things to say about the old girl. Freiburger goes so far as to call it “the single most brilliant vehicle we’ve ever bought on Roadkill.” High praise.
The old truck has working air conditioning, and a big 454 cubic-inch V8 connected to a Turbo 400 3-speed automatic transmission. What it doesn’t have is consistent reliability. As Freiburger says, “the problem is, is that you’re driving this down the freeway and it’ll just die.”
In order to solve the issue, the duo install a new MSD distributor and Holley carb in the truck. We won’t tell you if they fix the original issue, but we will let you know that they take the big girl to the dyno when all is said and done. Watch the video to find out how much additional power the Hot Rod team’s modifications give this old ramp truck.
