Earlier this week, Shanna from Pennzoil dropped by the Tuner School at Hennessey Performance Engineering (HPE) to change the oil of a fifth-generation Camaro SS. The oil she used was Pennzoil Ultra Platinum Full Synthetic Motor Oil with PurePlus Technology.
Although Shanna gives a step-by-step on the simple task of changing oil, our attention is on the introduction of Tuner School, created for those who want to delve deep into the world of automobile modification.
“Tuner school is essentially a 14-week-long, semester-long program designed to teach the fundamentals and basics of modifying cars,” says John Hennessey. “We’re really big on being able to see the before and after and the hands-on experience with the car.”
Tuner School even has access to a quarter-mile dragstrip right outside the classroom door. “The students can literally come out of their classroom, go out into the workshop which is right outside the door and literally take the vehicle they’re working and go to the drag strip.”

always a treat to see a pretty girl change oil but I always fill my filter with oil before installing.
She does most of the steps correctly. I remove the oil drain plug before the oil filter because the filter still has oil, and in my Regal the filter is sideways. So draining the oil will leave less oil in the filter. In some vehicles, a oil filter cap wrench will not fit, so I also use a open ended filter wrench. Finally, in the case when the filter is vertical (as in the Camaro), you can prefill the filter with oil and prevent running the engine dry, even for a few seconds. I have changed the oil in over twenty vehicles (seven are mine) since 1964!
