General Motors’ telematics subsidiary, OnStar, has updated its RemoteLink mobile app to version to 1.9.10. The update adds two new features, which allow users to locate their vehicle and control the Wi-Fi Hotspot in their 2015 model year vehicle.
The features are described as follows:
- Wi-Fi Hotspot control: allows user to easily manage vehicle’s built-in Wi-Fi hotspot, including turning it on and off or creating and editing the hotspot’s name (SSID) or password
- Vehicle Locate: allows the user to pipoint current location of their vehicle on a map at the push of a button
The update has been available as of June 30th in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

Vehicle Locate doesn’t work with some older OnStar RemoteLink cars. My 8.2 hacked Pontiac G6 (Bluetooth VCIM from an HHR) doesn’t see the option.
Not sure what gen that feature kicks in – suspect it’s 9.0 but not sure.
Updating the charge status of my car is still slow, but seems slightly faster than with the previous version. (Maybe I’ve just gotten used to it.) I wish they’d program the car to transmit location, state of charge, tire pressure, etc. at ignition off so that a cached “approximate” status could load instantly while the current information is updated. It’s also frustrating that the iPhone screen goes to sleep while waiting for the app to retrieve updated information. The developers should force the phone to stay awake while the status is updating.
Will you be adapting the older than 2015 vehicles with the hot spot?
