Consumer Reports Places Buick Regal Among Top Sports Sedans

Are you considering purchasing an upscale sports sedan? Then the Buick Regal should be high on your list, according to Consumer Reports. Impressed by the Regal’s infotainment system, handling, and performance of the car’s revised 2.0-liter turbocharged four, CR ranked the Regal just one point behind its top-rated upscale sports sedan, the BMW 328i.

Finishing with a total of 83 points, the Regal tied the Mercedes-Benz C250 in Consumer Reports‘ testing, subsequently earning it the magazine’s recommendation, reports Automotive News. The BMW and Mercedes-Benz were the only other upscale sports sedans to earn CR‘s recommendation. That’s high praise for Buick given the automotive media’s seemingly never-ending love affair with German sport sedans.

“The Regal is a thoroughly developed and satisfying mid-sized sports sedan that’s more reminiscent of a German sports car than the softly sprung luxo-barges that Buick was once known for,” said director of automotive testing for Consumer Reports, Jake Fisher.

While the Cadillac ATS and CTS didn’t earn the publication’s recommendation, the two Cadillacs both finished with a respectable score of 76 points.

  1. Not surprising that they give this such high marks. After all it came from their neck of the woods before GM slapped a Buick emblem on it. These are really nice cars that seem to be overlooked. I wish Buick/GM would push or advertise it more.

  2. I love the new Regal GS. It’s more understated than having a Cadillac, plus it’s sporty and well built. My last car was a 2007 Acura TSX, which was a fantastic trouble-free car the entire 7 years I owned it. But the Regal has more style and power.

  3. Regal is a German car (Opel Insignia) & it’s silly how the press, and folks over at CR, are pretending that the car is American.

I’ve wondered if Buick might become a threat to Caddy. BUICK is already a step above Lincoln, and will produce beautiful cars under Mark Adams. Regal is far more attractive than ATS.
Good press for Buick should help Chevrolet much like good publicity for Lexus aids Toyota. Given that most Buick/Opel vehicles are closely connected to Chevy, one might assume that Malibu must be a pretty good ride.

  4. The Regal, especially the GS is beautiful. I do not get why GM is not selling more!??!! We looked hard at the GS, but got the ATS. for the money, I got more cache with the Cadillac. But will admit the regal is nicer looking.

  5. Is there any new news on when there might be a Buick Grand National added back into the line up? That would sure be sweet as there are so many patiently waiting.
