One of the most important qualities of a classic automobile is how many owners it has had. This can say a lot about the car. If it has been passed around quite a bit, it’s hard to know what kind of life the car has lived, how it was taken care of and where and when the servicing was complete. This 1953 Buick Skylark convertible had one owner for over 50 years, which is just one of the redeeming attributes of the vintage drop top.
The car is for sale by Overstreet House of Cars in Missouri, who claims the car was purchased in Paducah, KY. On March 21, 1953 by the original owner, who kept it for the next 50 years. It has since gone under a full frame-off restoration, which ensured the rust-free body was as straight as can be and that all body gaps and panel fitments were in order. The engine bay and undercarriage were also detailed and appear as showroom new as the deep gloss body.
Just 1,690 Skylarks were ever built, all of which were convertibles. The model was put into production to mark Buick’s 50th anniversary and featured a 322 cubic inch (5.3-liter) Nailhead V8. This car was optioned with power steering, power brakes, a power convertible top, power seats and power windows. All the suspension and steering components were also replaced upon the restoration, so you know it’s ready for a Sunday cruise down Main Street.
