Australia’s Most Powerful Cars Battle On A Dyno: Video

The 2014 HSV GTS and 2014 FPV GT-F are two of the most powerful cars money can buy in Australia. One would assume that the title of the second-most-powerful car would be enough for automotive enthusiasts. But it’s not. And to complicate things further, there has been a recent uproar in Australia over how much power these two vehicles actually make.

Enter Wheels Australia. They take both vehicles and run them on the same dyno in the same conditions, reducing the chances of getting a skewed reading.

The HSV’s claim to fame as being the most powerful car built in Australia is given because delivers 430 kW or roughly 576 gross hp at the crankshaft. Meanwhile, the GT-F puts out a claimed 351 kW or 470 hp at the crank. With claimed figures like these, the HSV should easily win the dyno battle with a claimed (79 kW) 106 hp more than the GT-F.

The video puts an end to the debate and officially names one vehicle as Australia’s most powerful car, but the results, which you can see below, may surprise you.

  1. Not the first time a manufacture lied about the power output, it slows down the power war one up man-ship, it also helps keep the greenies in their place.

Japan had a 205 kW max power gentleman’s agreement which they all exceeded but never claimed they had.

  2. To show the true output, one would need to run the dyno test for longer. The FPV is 351kw as claimed, with about 403kw available short term, 8 seconds I think, when conditions are right.

  3. Drive.com.au put them in a drag race and GTS was the fastest.
