While Bryan Adams played his first real six-string until his fingers bled in the summer of ’69, Opel Design Director George Gallion was hard at work with his team creating the Opel CD concept car.
As Gallion explains in the video below, the car was based off of the V8-engined Opel Diplomat, but whereas the Diplomat was a stodgy sedan, the CD was a stunning sports car concept.
Equipped with a one-piece canopy that made getting into the CD like entering Tim Burton’s Batmobile, the concept car also offered a trick instrument panel and pedal system that came to the driver with the push of a paddle, opposed to the driver moving his or her seat toward these items.
The car is a stunning example of late-60’s design, and Opel’s accompanying video makes us yearn to see the car in the flesh.

What was the engine? Was it a 327 chevy?
