Earlier this year spy photographers caught the very first glimpse of the seventh-generation Opel Astra undergoing pre-production testing in Germany. As expected, the spy photos continue to trickle out revealing more and more of the D2XX-based hatchback. This time, they come courtesy of World Car Fans.
As with many other upcoming models, engineers are working to reduce the Astra’s weight with this new model. World Car Fans believes they could shave as much as 220 lbs from the compact car, which could improve its performance, handling and fuel economy.
This round of photos gives us a pretty clear look at the Astra’s new body lines. There is a very prominent sculpted part that runs just below the front and rear door handles on the side of the car, along with another which runs along the bottom of the car and swoops upwards at the rear doors. If you look closely, you may see a small resemblance to the sleek Monza concept, which is expected influence other future Opel models as well.

Interesting is the trailer. And the cable leading from the trailer to the rear hatch of the car.
The trailer has a grill on its front. Unfortunately, the “spy shots” never show the whole trailer.
Could it be that this trailer contains an generator, which generates electricity for an all-electric drivetrain?
What else could this trailer be intended for?
Maybe its just me, but this car has Chevy shoulders like Trax. Maybe its just the effect of the camo, I dunno?
This car should compete well against Focus and Polo. Wish it would come to NA.
