What is the most iconic Corvette out there? Many would say the 1963 Stingray. Not only is its design and styling out of this world, but its split-window backlight is legendary for its form-beating-function ethos. The Motor Trend Channel decided to pit one of these Vettes against a 2007 C6, which doesn’t seem to have legend on its side (only time till tell) but is still a classic performance Corvette, especially in Z06 form.
The Stingray came standard with a 250-horsepower (gross) 327, but this one has the step-up 300-horsepower version (340- and 360-horse variants were also available in 1963). The 2007 Corvette featured here, however, is the Z06 version, which means it has 505 (net) horsepower from a 427ci small-block that’s distantly related to the 327. Chock full of aluminum and carbon fiber components, the Z06 was much more leading-edge in 2007 than the Stingray was in 1963.
Hagerty’s Generation Gap‘s Matt and Davin got together to compare the two. In a classic case of old versus new, watch the below video and decide for yourself which one you’d rather own.
