HOT ROD Roadkill’s 1955 Hemi Chevy Build-Up: Video

It seems that car enthusiasts around the world are enamored with Hot Rod magazine’s Roadkill series on the Motor Trend Channel on YouTube. Peruse the Hot Rod Facebook page to see all the foreign languages and you’ll see. I for one have personal experience with this because when I was working for the magazine, all sorts of people would tell me this. I’ve even been with Mike Finnegan and saw people stop and pull a U-turn because they recognized him. Of course, we can’t leave out the co-mastermind of Roadkill, David Freiburger, whose exploits as editor of Hot Rod have made the magazine what it is today.

So for almost two years, Finnegan and Freiburger have been building this Hemi Chevy dubbed the BlaspHemi, a drivable gasser that is somewhat revenge for all those Chevy motors dropped into Brand X vehicles. The Chevy rides on a Jim Meyer Gasser tube chassis with Viking coilover dampers and, naturally, Firestone Cheater slicks out back. The Hemi is a 528cid Mopar Performance crate motor with Hilborn injection system controlled by a FAST EFI ECU.

If you visit Hot Rod‘s blog, you can view articles of the build, but Roadkill Episode 29 may be more fun—grab a cup of your poison and relax for 22 minutes of visceral hilarity.

  1. Gassers are awesome. I have a personal “in your face” dream of owning/building a 62 bubble top Chevy as hybrid gasser/street fighter. Something about the high riding, nose-up stance just screams ‘bad ass’.
