When it comes to safety, the perception tends to be the bigger the vehicle, the better, right? Some (not us) would say so. But the case of the 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe and its elongated brother, the 2015 Suburban, the Tahoe managed to rank a full star higher in frontal crash test ratings compared to the its larger sibling. Specifically, the 2015 Tahoe managed five stars, while the Suburban earned four.
That said, both mammoth sport utility vehicles managed the same overall score of four stars, and were identical in every other crash category.

Okay, I’ll bite. Neither this nor the Car Connection article seem to explain the discrepancy. Given how similar the two vehicles are, could someone explain the difference in frontal crash rating? Does it have something to do with the extra weight of the Suburban and Yukon XL?
Physics. Suburban is heavier therefore the same front structure will be subjected to higher loads than on the lighter Tahoe when driven into a wall.
