Chevy Sonic Gets 12 Changes For 2015 Model Year

Chevy is making a few updates and changes to its subcompact Sonic range for the 2015 model year, some of which are highly welcome while others leave us shaking our collective heads in disapproval.
Before we embark on summarizing the changes, we should note that the North American-market Sonic doesn’t get the same exterior styling changes as seen on the Sonic (Aveo) for the Chinese market. With that out of the way: the Deep Magenta Metallic, Cool Blue, and Blue Topaz Metallic exterior colors are discontinued for 2015, while Blue Velvet Metallic is added as a new color option. Joining the list of deleted items is the (base) UH7 AM/FM stereo with CD player as well as the Blind Spot Mirrors, which we find really useful in cars without blind spot detection systems. The elimination of the mirrors is the head scratcher. Meanwhile, the 2015 Sonic gets OnStar Generation 10 hardware with 4G LTE and Wi-Fi hotspot capability, as well as the Dragon Green Promotional Package.
Changes to the 2015 Sonic consist of the discontinuation of the UF7 MyLink radio on base LS models, the newfound inability to order an LS-model with extra-cost exterior colors, the 1.4L LUV/LUJ engine becoming standard equipment on the Sonic LTZ, and the inclusion of 16″ Silver-painted aluminum wheels as standard equipment on the Sonic LT 5-door when equipped with the Fun and Sun Package.
Check out all of the official RPO-level changes in the list below:

I really like the Sonic, but the lousy engines make me want to shop elsewhere. For the next generation, GM should really consider the 1.2t I3 (150HP/160-175LB-FT) paired to either the 7-Speed Dual Clutch.
1.2t 7-Speed: 36 City and 48 Highway
Curious, why a DCT in a cheap and small/light car? Is it because DCTs are the *in* transmission?
In a car like the Sonic, a 6spd auto with paddle shifts and well programmed sport mode would perform no noticeably different than a more expensive and heavier DCT.
Simply because you get faster acceleration and better fuel economy. The 2016 Cruze will be getting it, so why not replace the 6-Speed Auto with it completely?
Depends on the class. Sonic technically has best in class horsepower. But I prefer NA except in niche uses (like Solstice/Sky). Durability is a key concern.
If I bought a Sonic, I’d opt for the NA Engine. Primarily because if I could only afford a Sonic, I’d want to get 300,000 miles out of it.
But, the thing about the Sonic that really pains me is that there’s no way to get Encore seating. LTZ should have a premium package upgrade that gives seats that don’t murder my back after two hours… on the dot.
I do not understand the changes. Why remove Blue Topaz and Magenta? They are incredible colors. Topaz is a great color with sportiness and style with many crystalline flakes.
The Deep Magenta Metallic paint is already gone, so I’m not sure why they consider it a model year change. It was only produced though October as part of a promotional package. My wife has one:)
Okay this may be minor to others…but why the deletion of the CD player?????
because everyone is going MP3 players.
