Chevrolet has said they will only build 3,000 examples of the hardcore 2014-2015 Camaro Z/28, but if strong sales and high demand continues for the track-ready pony car, the nameplate could become a permanent addition to Chevy’s lineup, according to Automotive News.
Chevrolet sold out of all 450 units of the 2014 model year Z/28 rather quickly, and is expecting to move the 2,500-3,000 units planned for 2015 just as easily. However AN says Chevy is looking to stay competitive with Ford’s all-new 2015 Mustang and the impending Shelby Performance spinoffs of it, so keeping the Z/28 in the lineup may be a possibility.
Apart from the Z/28 remaining in the Camaro lineup, chief Camaro engineer Al Oppenheiser also added that the weight-saving measures taken in lightening up the Z/28, which weighs 300 pounds less than the ZL1 Camaro, could find their way onto other production versions of the Camaro in the future.

Well Duh!
This is just the start of things. With the new car they will be able to build a Z right from the start and not have to modify a older platform.
I expect the next gen will be like the Z06 with great performance but possibly a price that may just be a tick lower. Designing in the performance to the car from the start can make for a lower cost to make it fast.
