It’s not every day that you see a pair of Cadillacs leading a pack of Ferraris, Aston Martins, Lamborghinis, McLarens, Audis, Porsches and Vipers. But the Cadillac Racing team does that on a consistent basis in the Pirelli World Challenge racing series. Moreover, the aging CTS-V.R race cars aren’t the homologated GT3-spec race cars that makes up much of the grid this season. But that hasn’t stopped Johnny O’Connell from nabbing his fifth victory in six races on Belle Isle in the No. 3 CTS-V.R.
Meanwhile, teammate Andy Pilgrim rebounded from a disappointing Saturday to place second behind O’Connell in Sunday’s race in the No. 08 car. O’Connell also won Saturday’s race.
The Pirelli World Challenge Series will travel to Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin June 19-21 for a double race weekend with the NASCAR Nationwide Series. The Cadillac Grand Prix of Belle Isle race weekend will be televised on NBC Sports Network. Sunday, June 15 at 2:30 p.m. ET.
