While the 2015 Ford F-150 went under a major makeover, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 was busy winning the 2014 North American Truck of the Year, while the 2015 Silverado HD was bringing in high remarks with its real-world performance and newly found interior refinement. This all helps to strengthen the marketing arsenal for the Chevrolet truck line, with an all-new ad touting the Silverado HD’s best-in-class conventional towing abilities (19,600 lbs from the hitch).
In the ad below, you see the heavy duty version towing humongous structures that most people would think were immovable, utilizing all 765 pound-feet of torque in the most obvious way possible. To really hit it home in terms of dependability, Mr. Narrator slides in a little statistic: 100 billion miles of Duramax-Allison usage in the real world.
Usually at the end of a car commercial, you’re usually left with something to take home. Though if you can’t pick it up from all the off road towing and impressive fast facts, Chevrolet just says it at the end for you: “Strong just got stronger.”

Nice truck, but….. Key phrases are ‘in class’ and ‘conventioanl towing’. Check out the 2015 Ford Super Duty F-450 pickup. I think GM considers the 450 a medium duty truck (it is) and in addition GM claims best in class ‘conventional towing’, not a 5th. wheel hitch. So, if you look at it that way, the Chevy comes out on top. However, if you look at horsepower, torque, and total towing capacity, GM really isn’t a contender anymore. Sad they have to play these games, isn’t it? No medium duties really hurts.
chevy doesn’t have a 450 contender. Also, while the duramax is a carryover engine from the last model, the drivetrain has been engineered to be more efficient overall. motor trend did a comparative test between the 2015 3500hd Silverado and the f350 and found that even with a smaller max engine torque, the duramax was able to put power down better and considerably out pulled the ford truck. it will be a prime competitor of the 2015 f350.
