Upcoming Cadillac ATS-V And CTS-V Are Mean Muggin’ Side-By-Side In Latest Spy Shots

There have been plenty of photos online that captured the camouflaged face of its next-generation CTS-V circulating for some time, but rarely do we see the imposing glare emanating from what is sure to be the 2016 Cadillac ATS-V.

Both cars were caught testing together by Autoblog’s spy shooters, and though GM wrapped the two high-horsepower sedans in swirly vinyl camouflage, neither car’s nose is blocked by an exterior cover.

The two cars sport a clear family semblance. A sinister grin marks the super sedans’ lower fascia, with vertical slats appearing in both cars’ upper grilles. And while we still have to wait for official specs, we expect the new ATS-V to use a high-output version of GM’s LF3 twin-turbo V6 – an engine that’s good for 420-horsepower in the CTS Vsport – while the gen-III CTS-V will either introduce a twin-turbo V8 setup or continue the supercharged configuration of the outgoing model with a de-tuned version of the 2015 Z06 Corvette’s LT4 engine.

  1. Still surprised they went with a Buick-like waterfall grille for these cars. Was time to change up the chrome diamond, sure, but I always thought the ‘Sport’ grille for the first generation CTS always looked better than the grille on the V.

  2. I’d like to see the chain-like grill from the elmiraj concept become the grill for V vehicles. Very sofisticated yet aggressive look.

  3. I am not sure this is even the grill that will reach production.

I believe it may just be part of the Camouflage. GM has been late with installing grilles and head lamps in some of their cars of late.

Also we have not seen any hints of this kind of grill in any of the show cars.

You still may get a Elmraj like grill as it has evolved with the other show cars.

The grill on the prototypes kind of looks like an Old Hyundai styling from 10 years ago. Just call it a gut call but I expect this grill to be replaced with a different one.

  4. People, the grill is fake! It is there to fool people and throw them off. Did any of you noticed when the ’14 CTS was under wraps before it debut, they had that similar grill as well?

  5. Why a detuned version of the Stingray Z06 engine? How about GM shock the world AGAIN and release the new V with MOAR HP than the Z06 as they did last generation. Give me a 700HP CTS-V and I’ll give guarantee you a sale! Why would this not be doable? They still have the next gen ZR1 to introduce and that should be a 750 HP world beater!

A factory 700HP CTS-V would be juuuust enough to steer me away from a 2016 GT-R…

I know, two TOTALLY different cars, but why bother with the V if it can’t trump the likes of the Porsche Panamera Turbo S or the E63 AMG S…

    Come on GM!

  6. Well Austin you need to wait as in the case of detuned you may only see a 10 HP drop due to simple things like a larger exhaust.

Second GM can do a 700 HP car but I think we are at plateau now on HP. I have been reading what many of the powertrain people are saying and most say that we have reach the point where we will not see much more power from higher production engines. They said performance gains will now go through lighter cars and platform. By doing this they can make greater gains in MPG while making the cars faster, handle better and stop faster. Less mass is the next area all MFG will attack.

Note this is my prediction on the ZR1 replacement. since the new Z06 has replaced it the new Vette top car will go a different direction.

Look for a modern day Corvette Grand Sport like the original that Zora Duntov had built. It will be much like the Z/28 with much lighter parts and bigger and stickier tires and I am guessing a Carbon Fiber body in whole. This I feel is the car that GM registered the Zora name for much like Ferrari did the Enzo.

This for all intents will be a race car for the street and if you note the amazing things the Z/28 does at two tons just wait to see what this car will do at 1 ton and with more power.

There are some real changes coming and it will catch some off guard. The Corvette will be moving back into some more traditional like cars we have not seen for years They will not be cheap and they will be faster than any Vettes ever built this side of the Callaway Sledgehammer.
