When it comes to classics, General Motors has built plenty. And when it comes to classic performance cars, well, GM has built plenty of those through the years, too. But there is an elite group of classic muscle cars that few would be ever lucky to see at a car show, let alone a drag racing strip. And two great examples of what we’re talking about were caught battling it out in the quarter-mile recently on camera.
In lane one we have a 1969 L88 Chevrolet Corvette 427 — only one of 116. In lane two, we have a 1972 Oldsmobile 442 — one of 772 built. The Olds comes in strong at 300 vintage ponies, but the L88 Corvette punches in a different weight class entirely, with 430 ponies. Despite the power difference, the end result is close and very entertaining.  Just see for yourself below.
