As far as common race cars go, the fourth-generation Pontiac Le Mans isn’t really one of them. That doesn’t mean one can’t look good when done up in full Pro Street guise, though. Take for example this race-ready 1979 Pontiac Grand LeMans which recently popped up for sale on eBay for a rather enticing Buy It Now price of $21,995.
That might sound like a pretty penny for an old and not-so desirable Pontiac coupe, but this LeMans is fully race prepped. Under that massive pro stock hood scoop sits an 836 horsepower naturally aspirated Chevy 305 V8 hooked up to a 4-speed 700R4 automatic transmission. The interior is a mix of race car and street car with racing gauges, a roll cage, racing seats and harnesses and a full stereo with two subwoofers.
There are some other notable features too, like hood graphics with the ‘fleur-de-lis’ logo, a Positraction rear end with 4.11 gears and drag-style Weld racing wheels shod in Mickey Thompson drag radials. Check out the full listing for this yellow race-ready rocket here.

This is why you do not build a Pro Street car as generally one well done will have more in it than you will ever sell it for.
Now on the other hand a well done street rod often sells for more than the cost to build.
