Opel Adam Earns ‘Best Economical Car’ Award In Italy

The trendy Opel Adam has received numerous accolades in its short lifetime from a variety of organizations and publications. The most recent addition to the small city car’s trophy case comes from Italian automotive website AutoScout24, who gave it a ‘Carolina’ award for winning the Best Economical Car category.

To decide the Carolina awards, which is a play on words using ‘car’ and ‘online’, more than 12,000 users of AutoScout24 voted for their favorite vehicles across five different categories. The categories included Best Car overall, the Best Sports Car, Best Green Car and Best Electric car. In 2012, Opel won the Best Electric Car category for the Ampera extended-range EV.

“We are very happy that the Adam won this prestigious award. It proves, once again, the level of appreciation for the numerous qualities that make up the Adam, many of which – such as the IntelliLink infotainment system with ground breaking Siri Eyes Free – are closely connected with the online world, the same world that has assigned this award to the Adam,” Paola Trotta, Communications Director of General Motors Italia, said in a statement.

The Adam has won multiple awards since its launch in January 2013, including the 2014 38th Readers’ Choice Award from German automotive magazine Auto Motor Und Sport and the Best Interior In a Production Car at the Automotive Interiors Expo 2013 trade show in Stuttgart.

Sam loves to write and has a passion for auto racing, karting and performance driving of all types.

  1. I do not understand why they are delaying new models on sale, such as reaching Adam’s Rock and Adma. long time ago that GM could sell them would be useful. s Adam Opel in the American market, and could be the FIAT 500 ABARTH enthusiasts. GM should launch their models to be faster

  2. Opel Astra OPC the American market. Why GM does not use its opportunities to earn more money. VW GOLF GTI and R, FORD FOCUS ST. GM lets the other machine manufacturers to earn profits. I just do not understand. I’m a normal person, and also, of course, does not know everything

  3. C’mon GM, smarten up! Bring the Adam to North America and sell it as an Opel at Buick dealerships, just as you did the Opel GT and Opel Manta decades ago. I believe you’d be pleasantly surprised at the warm reception it would receive. Certainly would blow FIAT’s 500 out of the water.

  4. today is FIAT 500 AND ABARTH alone happy US this market. FIAT is happy US . i dont understand GM.
GM would seem to me a lot of opportunities to make money. Money needs to aggressively serve and do in good cooperation with various entities, and GM work best.
GM is unique because it offers so many very different cars in different countries.
VAG preserved is boring because no different.

  5. I just bought a Cruze diesel. It came standard with the hands free, Siri option. Other than the standard, rock hard, low resistance tires, my only other complaint is hands free siri. Siri is worthless.

I couldn’t be happier with the Opel engine. And if the engine has been used by Opel for years… Great… Its a proven long distance runner.

I hope GM turns to the Google voice command system, as siri only carries the Apples over rated mystic, and price… and even more importantly, puts some decent tires on the Cruze diesel. Not all of us bought a diesel, just for higher mileage, at the expense of a quiet, decent ride.

  6. “OUCH”, said FIAT, dissed on it’s home turf!
I agree, bring Adam to American and with a Chevy (would challenge Jute and Volster in the funky chill category) or as a Buick.
I love the idea of making Opel a small sub brand of Buick consisting on cars not fitting the Buick luxury image such as Corsa, Astra two door and Adam.
