Next-Generation Buick Verano Spied Testing In Germany

A next-generation Buick Verano has been spotted undergoing testing in Germany, indicating the new compact luxury sedan may share an even closer relation than before with its platform mate, the Opel Astra.

The spy photos, which come courtesy of WorldCarFans, show a Verano with styling that appears slightly more in-line with that of the next-generation Chevrolet Cruze. This is most apparent in the rearward sloping roofline, high beltline and the lower, wider stance.

Underpinning the Verano will be General Motors’ D2XX global vehicle architecture. Much like the next-generation Cruze, engine options are unknown. It could utilize the 1.4-liter turbocharged and 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engines announced for the Chinese-market D2XX Cruze, or a different option from GM’s new line of Ecotec motors.

Check out the spy photos of the next-gen Verano here and let us know what you think of the redesign in the comments.

  1. I saw the reviews on GM Inside News forum and there are people pretty mad.

    1. Everyone on GMI is mad about whatever new car GM rolls out. They’ll never be placated.

However, people on their forums say that if GMI hates it, it’ll be a hit.

      1. I thought news from GMI is prohibited lol?

        1. It’s not prohibited. I’ve paid off Alex and Manoli to turn a blind eye. 🙂

  2. Are we ever going to get the Ecotec 1.6t in The U.S market? It sounds like a very responsive and efficient engine. 220HP/235FT-LBS with VVT, SIDI, and iVVL paired to a 7-Speed Dual Clutch could get up to 29 City and 42 Highway when put in the Cruze.

  3. Sweet, the first of the new buicks are coming, hopefully GM raises the bar on this new car.

  4. I would discount GMI as this is not the kind of car that most there like there anyways. If it is not RWD and V8 then tend to not like it there.

Besides lets unwarp the package before we tell them we hate the shirt.

  6. Actually it is a minority , and this phenomenon encounters various car manufacturers . Nevertheless, it is strange to see so many negative attitudes to GM Inside News Forum then . It would seem like a troll with different user names , one user . Some of the weird things, pay attention to test the car and thinks that is why such a machine for sale . who will review the alloy wheel car , and who sees no black plastic parts.
And a lot of eyes will also be a situation where the GM cars in various forums who talk about moving a lot of fans from other car manufacturers , machinery or machinery and disparages the GM machine and it’s so weird and funny. I’m not going anywhere , and does not carry the BMW forum topic from a GM machine and it does not discredit the BMW . Why people are interested in a GM machine and move their users in these forums if GM does not love a machine itself but rather some other manufacturer’s machines. Everyone has their own tastes and love , however some things are really strange and funny to see.
Anyway, I like it already in the prototype . I hope to be like the cool thing about my plans for the GM thinks of all the new models. Certainly all GM car lovers or lovers do not like it , and it makes sense but just GM Inside News Forum was the moment the eye of weird comments and opinions .
The internet is a cool thing on the Internet and find all kinds of information about different things but sometimes have the feeling that all is not inernetti living and limited information.
That car does not exist anywhere or anyone that everyone likes .

  7. car this pictures like to MB CLA big brother.
I myself thought that cars are getting bigger, more powerful and kvalikteetsemaks. When are the boundaries. prices should also rise. Car manufacturers need new models after the lead, because BUICK VERANO is the same size as the Buick Regal. Buick Regal gets the biggest. I’ve seen a VW Passat spy pictures of the machine, and it seems much more comparable to the current Audi A6

  8. Of course the styling has much in common with the bow tie, Opel is destined to be little more than Chevy EU.
The Astra hatch looks like a Cruze, too, & will probably be sold as a Chevy in many markets.

I don’t think this is bad for Buick, either. This reminds me of the similarities between Nissan and Infinity.

    1. How is that not bad? In the states you’re paying a couple grand extra to get the verano over the cruze, there shouldn’t be any similarities between the two cars except in the places where you don’t notice it (platform, engine family, transmission) as this is a more upscale and premium car. A lot of GM’s FWD sedans are really starting to look ugly, which is a bad thing considering this is a company trying to take back market share from all the no-frills Japanese and the one size fits all Germans.

      1. Ugly? Are you kidding me? You are going to sit here and compare the Cruze, Malibu, Impala, Verano, Regal, LaCrosse, and XTS to their competition? The Cruze is still the best looking in my opinion. The Malibu is second best to the Mazda 6. The Regal is better looking than a 3-Series! The Impala/LaCrosse/XTS are best in class.

        1. The fusion looks better than the 2014 refresh Malibu (I thought the 2013 was the best looking in its class), the current cruze looks nice (but not the new one recently leaked in spy shots), the current verano looks nice, the lacrosse was whatever until the 2014 refresh and the regal gs and impala are the two best looking FWD sedans on the market right now, that’s my opinion. Give me the thumbs down if you want, I don’t care, it’s my opinion and I’m sticking by it.

        2. I almost forgot, the xts might be a nice car but it’s a real odd ball as it’s a FWD sedan in a lineup that’s supposed to be all about RWD. And the Mazda 3 and dodge dart look better than the cruze, but it still believe the cruze is put together better than the dart and even though it’s not the most attractive, it’s still a car you’d enjoy showing off to friends riding in the passenger or back seat.

      2. It’s good from an accounting profit based standpoint to keep Opel design neutral so GM can build different Z Chevy line UPS depending on market.

In AU, for example, Holden will be selling both Astra and Cruze. We see it with Traxx and Encore/Mokka. In the US, it will be Chevy and Buick modeled on the similarities seen between Honda & Acura.

Opel and Buick only move about two million cars yearly meaning GM must look to Chevy to gain scale. This move will also help Opel cash in on licencing fees plus utilize excess capacity.

From a Wall Street perspective this is great. It ducks from a car guy angle. Opel is my favorite GM division and I had higher hours.

  9. I repeat that I do understand that people have different tastes and everyone liked and did not catch it perfectly normal. but I do not understand very well that some of the soul still so goes the spy pictures. If you look at other cars, spy photos when it’s all funny. It’s very raw car spy photos. Anyway, in these spy pictures of the car brute like me, anyway.
