General Motors is recalling certain 2007-2008-model year Saturn Aura midsize sedans because a cable linked with the automatic transmission shifter can fail, the automaker has announced.
The Problem: GM says 2007-2008 Auras equipped with the four-speed automatic transmission have a shift cable which can fracture. If the cable breaks while the car is moving, the driver may not be able to shift into “Park” or remove the ignition key, increasing the chance of the car rolling away.
Number of affected vehicles: About 56,214 models are affected. This recall is in addition to the March recall of 1.3 million vehicles due to problems with the power steering, which also included the Aura among other models. All vehicles affected were made between April 24, 2006 and Oct. 31, 2007.
The Solution: GM will notify owners and replace the transmission cable and mounting bracket at no cost to the owners. It has yet to determine when repair parts will be available.
Contacts: Owners may call Saturn with further questions at 1-800-553-6000.

A 4-speed in 2008? Old GM was a mess..
This was the transition year as the V6 cars were getting the 6 speeds. The start up production was limited. Also some of the older cars the six speed did not fit like the HHR.
