The Local Motors Rally Fighter is essentially a road-legal trophy truck which you could drive in the Baja 1000 one day and, if comfort is no object, drive it to work the next. Each vehicle is built by the customer alongside a Local Motors specialist in one of the company’s “Microfactories” across the U.S., which is just one of the factors which make the Rally Fighter unlike anything else that has come before it.
Recently, Local Motors demonstrated the capabilities of the Rally Fighter by bringing it out to the famed Lime Rock Park racetrack in Connecticut. The company allowed two new owners of a Rally Fighter to strap into the head-turning vehicle and fling it around the autocross track. Lime Rock Park was more than happy to have the Rally Fighter at the event, seeing as it is a refreshing sight to see compared to the Miata’s and 911s which are frequently a staple of autocross events.
It might not be the ideal sports car for an autocross event, but we have a feeling the guys behind the wheel of the Rally Fighter had more fun than anyone at the track that day. After all, it’s hard not to enjoy driving a lightweight off road racer with a tubular steel space frame and a General Motors E-Rod V8 emitting a ferocious bark from directly behind your head.
