Another 2016 Opel Agila has been caught by an enterprising photographer in the streets of Europe. While the current Agila is based on a Suzuki model, the next-gen Agila will be equivalent to the Chevrolet Spark, which is built by Daewoo.
According to Inautonews, the Agila will be different than its American counterpart, including conventional rear door handles. The engine is rumored to be all-new as well. Inside, the interior has been redesigned and should feature new bells and whistles.

A 1.0t I3 (VVT, SIDI, and IVVL) with 135HP and 150FT-LBS paired to a 6-Speed Automatic or 6-Speed Manual that gets up to 35 City and 50 Highway for both the Agila and Spark.
This is an example of how Chevy and Opel will work together on lower end, value cars. Holden (Chevy on the down low) will soon be adding Astra, Corsa and Insignia once again to the brand line up.
The next generation Astra, stripped of it’s front facada and “hockey stick” will sit nicely beside Cruze, and this isn’t by accident.
I keep saying GM will do everything to mimic One Ford sharing Opel with Buick in some markets, Chevy in others & both brands when justified.
For North America, the Astra hatch would look great along side the new “Heartbeat” Cruze & help Chevy do battle with Focus.
From the spy shots, it amazes me how much the evolution of Mark Adam’s language of German precision has in common with Chevy’s new Heartbeat ethos.
Cheers to GM regarding it’s efforts to build a flexible behind the scenes mega hyper brand that can be repurposed depending on market. It is this sort of forward thinking that will keep in the top three for years to come.
