2015 Terrain To Be First GMC To Show Mullet Of OnStar 4G LTE Capabilities

General Motors revealed last week the 2015 models which would be receiving OnStar’s 4G LTE technology. The system, which effectively turns your car into a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot, will first be introduced in the 2015 Chevrolet Malibu, but the first GMC vehicle to receive 4G LTE capabilities will be the 2015 GMC Terrain and Terrain Denali, the automaker announced today.

The announcement makes GMC the first truck brand to enter the market with 4G LTE technology. The Sierra pickup will soon follow in its footsteps along with the 2015 Sierra HD, 2015 Yukon and 2015 Yukon XL. Additionally, the upcoming 2015 Canyon mid-size pickup will also be equipped with the technology when it hits the market later this year.

OnStar’s 4G LTE connectivity enables passengers to browse the web, download movies, play games or send email, all from the comfort of the back seat. The antenna in the car is more powerful than the one in a smartphone, meaning a stronger connection and improved access to existing OnStar safety and security services.

“This technology is a great feature for all of our customers,” Duncan Aldred, U.S. vice president of Buick and GMC, said in a statement. “From those who use their Sierra or Yukon as a mobile office, to the families taking trips in any of our vehicles, they can enjoy the benefits of 4G LTE for work or play.”

The built-in Wi-Fi and 4G LTE connectivity, standard equipment on the Terrain, is ideal for a family-oriented crossover. It allows for the passenger to conduct business in the front and a party for those in back through access to the web and special child-friendly features. OnStar data plan subscribers can take advantage of special offers from content partners, such as the family-oriented apps Famigo and TumblebooksTV, for fun and educational entertainment through brought-in devices.

OnStar 4G LTE data plans start at $5 per month after a three-month or three gigabyte trial service. More than 30 GM models will be available with the technology before the end of the year.

  1. Is this why they got rid off the HD radio?

  2. What else is going to be done to the 2015 Terrain? It deserves a refresh.

  3. The shorter production run of 2015 Equinox/Terrain is going to be the same as the 2014 except for a couple small things like LTE and Gen 10 OnStar. But the all-new versions will be here in early 2015 as a 2016 model. I won’t hold my breath for that timeline since there have been zero spy shots of any next generation Terrain/Equinox. The only thing spied is what people think is the Buick Anthem (Buick’s version of the next Equinox/Terrain).

    1. I cannot wait to see the next generation Terrain. Perhaps GM is keeping quiet of these new crossovers…

  5. It will be here in 2015.

There are a lot of new GM cars just around the corner you have not seen. Seen a Camaro yet?

Sales are just now moderating and we should see a new one at the auto shows this fall or winter.

I have seen a Nox in camo but you could tell so little of it.
