We’ve already shown you how the K2XX-based Chevy Silverado would look like with the front fascia of a Silverado HD. Following that rendering, many of you asked us to show you how the Silverado would look like with a Tahoe/Suburban front fascia — in effect, going from the “truck” side to the “family” side of the K2XX line.
We’ve always found it interesting how The General separates the styling of its light-duty and heavy-duty trucks from the SUVs, all of which are based on the same vehicle architecture. And while most of you clearly feel that the difference in styling between the 1500 and 2500/3500 is well worth it, we wonder how you feel about the Silverado with this face. So we’re introducing a poll.

The actual front fascia of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
Does the Silverado 1500 look good with the Tahoe/Suburban nose, and should Chevy unify on a consistent look across the Silverado and its SUV counterparts? Keep in mind that if General Motors/Chevrolet were to apply this kind of styling treatment to the Silverado, it could silence those detractors critics haters who dislike the appearance of the vehicle. Vote in the poll, and talk to us in the comments section below.

It looks slightly better, but still very much in line with Chevrolet’s truck design theme; which is largely unchanged throughout it’s history. People either love it or hate it. I may be crazy, but this may very well be how the refreshed model will look.
Even more blah.
Too car like for a truck. The current Silverado might look boring and un offensive, but it isn’t ugly. Anything beats the 2003-2006 edgy front end that clashed with the more rounded body lines of the time.
Nothing should be made to wear the front fascia of a new gen. Tahoe/Suburban … including the new gen. Tahoe/Suburban.
I don’t like the Tahoe/Suburban front on the Siverado. They should stay as two separate designs.
We are getting more and more new GMC and Chevy trucks in the parking lot at work since the nice weather is here.
I was one that did not think they went far enough to start with on the design and was one of the first to say so. But I do like the new trucks and while they could have gone farther they did not do bad on the design. It may look like a refresh more than a new truck but it is far from ugly.
Regardless of what they do to the front end the new GM trucks just don’t compete with F150.
Sales numbers just don’t lie. The 2015 F150 may present an even greater challenge.
GM sells more 1500 trucks than F150’s ford chooses to recognize GMC as a competitor to ford trucks. Sierras + Silverado’s outsell F150s
Oh pulease. This is not even putting lipstick on a pig. More like putting a clown nose on a dog. These trucks are failures and until they change the design completely (get rid of the square wheel-wells and the character lines above them; make up their minds about what the grille is supposed to look like; and introduce some curves to the thing) they will continue to be also-rans. I hate these vehicles…all of them…
Not sure what other areas as seeing but here the new GM trucks are showing up like Dandelion’s.
Not sure if it is the price reduction, the weather or both but this last month they are all over. I just counted 5 new ones in our parking lot at work that just showed up in the last week and a half.
As for Ford there are some things many do not take into account with their numbers. Ford often accounts F series truck in total and that accounts for classes GM is not in weight class size. Also they sell a lot of fleet sales at heavy discount prices. Companies buy from who is cheapest and that generally is Ford. It will be interesting to see if the new truck will be fleeted as easily at higher prices.
Same for Ram as the cheap prices has spurred their fleet and company sales prices as when a company buys 5-25 trucks they are looking at price not brand.
While total numbers are good it is price per unit that really counts as you can sell 3 million trucks and it does you little good if the company selling a million make as much or more profit.
Anyways I think the nay sayers will be silenced at the end of this month with a large jump in sales due to the rebate and weather. Styling has not changes so I expect it had little affect on changes and most people do not have an issue with it.
Again, Ram 1500 diesels are selling before they are built AND they are far from cheap!! That’s where GM wants to be with the brand new models but they ain’t there. I predict stagnant sales for GM with continued increases for Ford and Ram for April (compared year to year). We will know in the AM. Also if you think GM doesn’t care that Ram is getting awfully big in the rear view mirror in the sales department then you are mistaken.
Had GM even only halfheartedly listened to customers and common sense, they’d have at least had a diesel in the powertrain lineup and had a more refined transmission.
GM still sells trucks to those who don’t know or who don’t care what’s under the hood. I, too, know some who have bought a new half ton, can’t say any are under the age of 65.
Actually both our local Ram dealerships have 2-3 diesel Rams sitting on their lots right now, not sold. Since the price of diesel jumped to 20 cents/litre more than gas, the talk of diesel in 1/4 and 1/2 tons has quieted down. The extra 20% better fuel economy is offset the cost of diesel and the cost of the engine upgrade. Yes it has torque, but so does a V8 gas, and the owner doesn’t have to worry about freezing DEF fluid like all three brands are experiencing in the HD trucks.
There will be the an initial demand for any new technology but that tends to slow a bit after the initial crowd has made their purchase. I’m not saying it’s not a good motor because it is (after all it was designed by GM engineers at VMMotori), and I’m not saying there won’t be a demand for it because there will be, but the demand will depend on the price of diesel fuel and there is no sign that it will be dropping more inline with gas prices. Even Ford has no immediate plans for a diesel in their half tons.
The thing that amazes me is that critics were bashing GM for bringing out a new model with all the new things in it and then keeping it the same for 5-6 years while they praised Ford for bringing out a new body with old powertrain, but then upgrade the powertrain 2 years later, the interior 2 years after that, etc., always having a new reason for people to buy a new truck every couple years.
Now GM is following suit and gets bashed for it. Everyone wants everything in the first year (new body, diesel engine, 8-speed transmission, etc). This new truck gets better fuel economy than a Ford, has a smoother ride than a Ford, has an engine range that will out hp and torque any volume selling Ford, is quieter than a Ram, has a much better rear suspension than the Ram’s coils (I followed a Ram to work this morning and as we crossed some railway tracks the back end of his truck had more wiggle than go-go dancer), doesn’t require any expensive turbo’s to produce power, has a lower step in, box rail and box floor height than Ford (much easier to load and reach into), has brake rotors chemically treated to repel rusting, has the most user friendly Infotainment and DIC systems in the industry (that’s why MyLink has won all the major technology awards), plus adds standard features in all models that other’s restrict to higher models. It is also the only truck to have a 5 star safety rating based on the new tests.
By the way Magirus, I just ran a check through our database and the average age of a 2014 Silverado buyer at our large city dealership is 42.
I would agree with much of what you said except one key thing that GM forgets… A truck is meant to represent a masculine vehicle. Masculine doesn’t mean just make er’ boxy, it means make it functionally capable. The front approach angle on the new trucks is attrocious, bad enough for me to not seriously consider it. Why can the other truck makers ie. toyota make a front bumper so much less hideous? At least offer a package with a bumper is better suited for off road and have a higher ride height. Don’t get me started on the hideous DEF tank..
GM should stop leading the industry in hideous bumper designs. They try to hide it all ads too by putting the camera low on the ground to make it look better..
In summary GM needs to make a truck that asthetically looks like one.
If you are seriously going to call the Silverado atrocious and make poor comments regarding bumpers, ride height and masculinity, at least bring up a better example to compare it to than the Toyota. I am guessing by Toyota you must mean Tundra since it is somewhat but not really a competitor to the Silverado. The Tundra exemplifies design atrocity for the full-size segment. The only reason why it is still in the marketplace languishing on the lots with 0% financing and cash on the hood, is so the Toyota true believers who would never truly consider anything else have somewhere to go for a full-size truck. Seriously, you brought up a Tundra. Wow…
The square front end kinda grew on me already.
If the photo-shop would have been better, I think more people would like the look of the Tahoe face on the Silverado. Along with adding the face they needed to show what the fenders and bed would look like if they got rid of the squared and flared wheel wells, by rounding and smoothing them out same as the Tahoe. I think the truck would look more high quality rather than like a Tonka.
If you look at the grill and headlight lines of the new Colorado and the Tahoe, you can actually see some familial design language much like on the Canyon/Sierra. The Silverado/Colorado don’t even look like they could be brand related if you took the bowtie off. Why Is GM wanting to differentiate the looks of the Chevy Truck and SUV line so much? They have done everything recently to make the cars have a similar brand identity and obvious “That’s a Chevy” design. Why not do the same with the Trucks?
Eh. I actually like it better.
The actual one is just so aggressive. Its like they designed it for people who buy trucks, not people who use trucks.
Its TOO large. It needs to stop growing.
Personally, I don’t think Chevrolet should change the grilles on the trucks or SUVs.
