Senator Wants Former General Motors CEOs To Give Testimony Regarding Ignition Switch Scandal

Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Connecticut), a member of the Senate Commerce Committee that is investigating General Motors and its slow response to an ignition switch recall, says that he “very definitely … wants to hear” from Daniel Akerson, who was General Motors’ CEO from 2010 until early in 2014 when current CEO Mary Barra took over.

In addition to Akerson, he has “a whole set of questions on why there were so many delays in taking action to remedy this situation” that he’d like other executives to answer, according to Automotive News.

General Motors claims it was conducting internal investigations into the defective part at that time, although GM has claimed its senior leadership team was not aware of the recall decision until around the time Barra started her new position.”When the facts are in, we will be transparent and hold ourselves accountable,” said General Motors spokesman James Cain reiterated.

In a telephone interview with Reuters, Blumenthal indicated that it will be up to Claire McCaskill, Chairwoman for the Senate Commerce subcommittee, to organize the next hearings and decide who will testify.

  1. This ought to be interesting to see how it develops, especially considering the blowhards involved(DC not GM).

  2. I cannot wait for them to drag that weasel Dan Lackerson into the hearings. I hope they find a way to charge him for treason, murder, manslaughter, or whatever else they can make stick. I have said over and over on these very pages that this guy was bad for GM. We will see soon enough just how bad he actually is. The deeds of his efforts are coming home to roost as we are now seeing…

    1. Richard, I think you’re being a bit harsh towards him. This developed way before his tenure, he should have some responsibility but they need to really go to the beginning and get them. Granted Ackerson is sort of Lackerson when it comes to his “style” but they really need to go to the real root or beginning of they problem. And yes there should be stiff penalties but the courts(such as they are) should decide that issue.
