Springtime is in full swing and for some people that means one thing: bicycle riding. Opel is making it easy to transport your bikes with the FlexFix bicycle carrier system, a practical bike rack which is available on nearly all of Opel’s models including the Meriva, Astra, Corsa, Antara, Mokka and Zafira Tourer.
Opel is the only automaker to offer a fully-integrated and user-friendly bike rack on its models. The FlexFix rack on the Meriva slides in and out of the rear bumper like a drawer, able to carry up to two bikes, or 40 kg, when it is deployed. When not in use, it simply disappears back into the rear bumper without affecting the load volume of the vehicle’s luggage compartment. The rack is close to the ground when it slides out, meaning the user doesn’t have to cumbersomely attempt to lift their bike high up to mount it. Additionally, no special tools or fittings are necessary to install bikes on the FlexFix carrier.
Another benefit of the FlexFit system is it avoids having to install a roof rack system. Roof racks often limit travelling speed to around 120 km/h (74 mph) and can have an impact on fuel economy due to increased wind resistance. The FlexFix system is mounted on the rear of vehicle, meaning it is stable during sharp turns and heavy braking and won’t affect aerodynamics as greatly.
The Opel FlexFix system also offers adequate load capacities. On the Adam, a bike weighing up to 30 kg can be carried, and with an adapter an additional 20 kg bike can be mounted. For the Astra Sports Tourer and Zafira Tourer, the FlexFix system is available with an extension kit including a clip-on adapter so that a further two bicycles can be transported, bringing the total to four.
