Images Of Next-Generation Chevrolet Aveo Leak Online

Images of the next-generation Chevrolet Aveo, a car we know here in North America as the Sonic, have surfaced on Car News China ahead of its official unveiling later this year.

Styling wise, the visual updates to the Aveo closer align it with the new 2016 Chinese-market Chevrolet Cruze. The two-tier grille returns, which now has a smaller upper section, just like on the Cruze. The headlamps are all new and now utilize a single lens design unlike the outgoing model which has two separate circular sections. The styling remains the same along the sides, while the back is refreshed with a new rear bumper and trunk lid flanked by a set of all-new taillights.

The current Chinese-market Aveo has both 1.4-liter and 1.6-liter four-cylinder engines on offer, both of which are expected to carry over into the updated model. Prices in China currently start at 81,100 yuan (US $13,029) and extend to 114,800 (US $18,444). The refreshed version is expected to command a similar asking price.

It is unknown if these changes, or similar ones, will eventually find their way onto the Sonic in North America. The new Aveo is expected to be officially unveiled at the Chengdu Auto Show in September.

  1. Come on guys! Spark? The last generation “Sonic” was sold in the US as the Aveo before it became the Sonic. It isn’t that difficult to make the connection, this is not the Spark!

    1. My mistake, sorry. I know this, just fumbled with the names in my head.

  2. It doesn’t look bad, but they removed all that really stood out about the Sonic. I hope they touch up the interior.

  3. Overall, I like it . Nice evolutionary changes but the emblem needs to be on the center crossbar again.

  4. I realize the Sonic is nothing like the Aveo, and this new Aveo is destined for the Chinese market, not the US- but having owned a 2007 Aveo, I still shudder upon hearing that the nameplate exists at all. Truly not one of the better efforts by GM, old OR new.

Please- drop that awful name and come up with something new!

  5. The Sonic stood out much because it still had the classic round headlights. This new look makes it a part of the Chevy family. I wonder if the new Spark has the same look instead of the huge headlights.
