General Motors CEO Mary Barra Receives Award From Michigan Women’s Foundation

General Motors CEO Mary Barra was presented with the “Women of Achievement and Courage” from the Michigan Women’s Foundation on Tuesday night.

Barra, the first female CEO of a major automotive corporation, received the award from Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder for her accomplishments in her professional career and for inspiring other women. She said the award was “a great personal honor.”

“When people are treated with equality and respect… and when the barriers that prevent us from getting ahead are dismantled or torn down, an extraordinary thing happens:  people across the spectrum are free to contribute and grow to their full potential,” she said.

The Women’s Foundation award comes shortly after Barra was included on Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People list last week. The Michigan Women’s Foundation helps fund camps, scholarships, women’s workshops, business awards and other empowerment activities to improve the lives of nearly 2,000 women and girls across Michigan.
