General Motors and its Chinese joint ventures today announced the sale of their 1 millionth vehicle in the country in 2014. The milestone marks the eighth consecutive year that GM has sold more than one million vehicles in a calendar year in China and the earliest it has reached the 1 million mark.
GM first reached 1 million vehicles sold in China in December of 2007. Last year, it hit a million on April 22. GM will hand over the keys to the millionth vehicle, a Chevrolet Trax, to its owner during a ceremony at GM China’s headquarters in Shanghai on April 21.
“General Motors has made China a global priority, expanding both our brand and product lineup to keep up with the changing demands of the market,” GM Executive Vice President and GM China President Matt Tsien, said in a statement. “We appreciate the support that we have received from our partners, our joint ventures and, most important, our customers in China.”
