Chevy Silverado Crew Cab Adapted For Police Use

Today Chevrolet has announced that its Silverado 1500 Crew Cab Special Service Vehicle (SSV) will be joining General Motors’ law enforcement portfolio for the summer of 2014. As you’d expect, it has the same capabilities as the general-consumer Silverado but with the added features necessary for police duty.
The SSV package is available on Silverado 1500 Crew Cab in either 1WT or 1LS trim levels. Included is the 5.3L EcoTec3 V-8 putting out 355 horsepower; the motor is also available with E85 capability. Police agencies can choose 2WD or 4WD models with the standard 6’6″ pickup box or a shorter 5’8″ bed.
“Last year, the Silverado 1500 was awarded for its low cost of ownership, a key purchasing factor for municipalities and government agencies. The EcoTec3 engine provides the best fuel economy of any V-8 and still gives agencies the power and capability they need from a full-size pickup,” said U.S. vice president for GM Fleet & Commercial, Ed Peper.
The SSV package adds a standard 170-amp high-output alternator and 730-CCA auxiliary battery, which allows officers to operate lights, radios, computers, cameras, and other equipment while parked with the engine turned off and preserving the charge of the Silverado’s primary battery. The SSV pickup also is equipped with a 110-volt outlet for extra equipment, plus it comes standard with a electrical power supply for four upfitter switches located on the center stack.
An interesting option is the “common key” which allows municipalities to use one key to operate all of their Silverado SSVs and 2015 Tahoe police vehicles. Take a glance below for more information on the Silverado SSV package.

Hope I get to keep “my” 2012 Caprice.
we already have tons of unmarked trucks here in Canada.
To be honest, unmarked trucks are the most scary and unexpected. Sucks that chargers are now cars i have to slow down to as well.
The joys of limitations.
