Spy photographers have spotted a next-generation Opel Astra prototype testing. The new Astra will use General Motors’ all-new D2XX global architecture, which will also underpin the all-new Chevrolet Cruze destined for North America and other markets.
The Astra prototype which was photographed is a five-door hatchback model. According to Motor Authority, this new model will have several body styles spun off of it, just like the existing Astra sedan, Sports Tourer wagon and GTC coupe. Under the hood will be both three and four-cylinder engine options from GM’s new line of Ecotec engines. A hybrid or a high performance OPC variant have not been confirmed by Opel, though they are not off the table entirely.
The current-gen Astra was first introduced back in 2009, and received minor cosmetic updates in 2012. Much like the new Cruze, the Astra will most likely be unveiled sometime in 2015 or early 2016 for the 2016 model year.

How about a Buick version now?
The current Verano is still based on the Opel Astra…only different shett metal while the doors and the roof are identical…
I totally agree with ya EvanG. But I’m willing to up the ante and suggest that the others listed would come along as well to help fill out the Buick portfolio.
Just bring over the Astra and Corsa, and forget the cruise and sonic!!! Just think of the money saved and the much happier customers.
GM will never let go of the Cruze. It is assembled and sold in other nations, and is GM’s best selling vehicle worldwide (third most sold model in the world). It will have a new platform that will be shared, so there is more vehicles to sell. It is a great American money maker that can shake out the imports!
the Astra is the Buick Verano. The Sonic has actually the same platform as the Corsa
