When you think of performance, a station wagon is probably not the first thing that comes to mind. Most station wagon owners couldn’t care less about going fast, and probably bought their car for practicality reasons. That’s not to say that your typical wagon can’t be both practical and fast, though. Something EVO Magazine’s Richard Meaden found out first hand when he pitted two of the fastest five-doors on sale today against one another on the racetrack.
The cars in question are the Audi RS6 Avant and the Vauxhall VXR8 Supercharged. Both have five-doors and forced-induction engines, but that is where the similarities between these two end. Whereas the RS6 has a 4.0-liter twin turbo V8 and all-wheel drive, the VXR8 has a supercharged 6.2 liter V8 sending its power to the rear wheels only. The Vauxhall has the power advantage on the Audi, 610 to the German’s 552, but will it be faster around the racetrack? Find out in the video below.
Great job with Vauxhall, is 3 seconds away from a magnificent Audi with AWD and a lot of technology in assists. They are very good numbers considering the traction and torque with plays the VXR8
I question what would happen if GM develops AWD Wagon …..
And think… that was only the VE! If he’d tested the VF, it’d be much quicker! Such a shame HSV won’t be around much longer!
