Fleet managers using the Telogis fleet management platform will soon be able to utilize a unique telematic solution for GM vehicles equipped with OnStar.
Those not familiar with Telogis should know that the start-up provides a comprehensive cloud-based location intelligence platform for organizations that require route optimization, real-time work order management, commercial navigation, telematics, and mobile integration services for their mobile workforces. General Motors recently partnered with Telogis to integrate OnStar-equipped GM vehicles with the service and provide “fleet customers a one-of-a-kind telematics solution that provides actionable data to help control costs, increase safety and enhance fleet operations.”
The partnership allows Telogis to integrate its location intelligence platform with GM-OnStar’s proprietary application program interfaces (APIs) to provide information about vehicles to fleet customers. The new offering will enable fleets to make decisions regarding vehicle location, odometer, fuel consumption and other maintenance information on their connected GM vehicles. Information from vehicles in the field is transmitted from the vehicle using OnStar technology, and requires no additional hardware or third-part installations, allowing fleets to access the services while lowering their total cost of ownership.
Telogis’ fleet telematics solution solution is scheduled for a spring 2014 availability.
Notably, the Telogis platform is the first set of commercial applications to use OnStar’s proprietary APIs following the early 2013 announcement of the GM-OnStar developer portal. The portal allows developers to work with GM in a secure and controlled environment “to design, test and deliver relevant, customizable and seamlessly integrated automotive apps and services”, according to GM.
