Opel GT Recall Grows To Include 7,450 Vehicles

General Motors has announced it will extend the recall of the 2007 Opel GT to all model year Opel GTs in Europe, as faulty ignition switches may have been used to repair the vehicles.

The Problem: Just as the case was with the Chevrolet Cobalt, Chevrolet HHR, Pontiac G5, Pontiac Solstice, Saturn Ion and Saturn Sky, the replacement ignition switch installed on later model years of the Opel GT used the same part number as the faulty switch, so GM is unsure which cars received new ignition switches.

Affected Vehicles: Prior to the announcement, the recall only included 2007 model year Opel GTs, but it has since been extended to include 2008-2010 model years as well.

Number Of Vehicles Being Recalled: Originally, just 2,300 Opel GTs from the 2007 model year were recalled. Since the 2008-2010 model years were added the number has grown to 7,450.

The Fix: Opel says dealers will notify owners as soon as possible and replace the ignition switch free of charge.
