Employees at General Motors assembly plant in Lordstown, OH., will be taking home larger paychecks this month. The plant has made the decision to add additional shifts to its production schedule in order to keep up with increasing demand for the Chevrolet Cruze.
Cruze sales jumped 21 percent year-over-year in February, the best February sales figures for the small car since it first went on sale in the U.S. in 2008. Â As such, the Lordstown plant will be running a three-shift production schedule on Saturday March 15th and March 29th.

How lol? The Cruze is oldest in it’s segment, or damn near if not. Huge discounts?
It may be old, but it is way better compared to its competition!
little case anal cranial inverse going on. It’s a good car, great when it came out, but it’s time for the 2nd gen.
That is just it this was a class leading car when it arrived and even old it is still better than many of the others on the market. Also the pricing is great for what you get.
My office over looks Interstate 76 here in Ohio and all day long I see truck after truck hauling Cruize from Lordstown.
The same is happening with the Nox and Terrain as they are about as old as anything in class but their sales are as high now as they ever have been.
For once GM has a better vehicle and it pays off as the production run goes. In the past the most models were lagging when they arrived and were in need of replacement long before they were old.
This is what building better cars will do for you.
Also it will not be too long next year they will have to build out and shut down for the change over.
I just hope the next one is as good as this one was in class.
Best in its class?? Yeah, and professional wrestling is real. Slower than slime (yes even the turbo), a material on the passenger side dash that can only be described as carpeting, and a back seat too small if you are over 4′. Oh, and a recall about steering wheels falling off.
I know the Japanese and German nameplates may have done downhill but not near enough to call the Cruze best in class.
I’m caught in a dilemma… We’ve driven a Cruz’s rental in Florida, and my wife and I rely liked it. For better, or worse, I want a diesel… before I kick the bucket.
The dilemma is choosing between the Cruze diesel, and the upcoming Colorado diesel. It’s not a really bad dilemma to have, but I’m figeting already.
As for those who think the Cruze is old… Its still a great looking auto. GM will be hard pressed to beat the design, and… the bugs have been worked out.
magirus Why are you even here. You have become the site troll as you never have anything constructive or most times legitimate to add.
I did not call it best in class but many of the reviews when it arrived did and still many rank it near the top even at this age.
On the other hand Dodge is laying off people because of the lack luster sales of the Dart. Dodge is not doing well and if the 200 tanks too the trucks and Wrangler may be all that keeps Fiat afloat.
The Cruze was not a perfect car but was as good as any and better than many.
