General Motors dealers in Canada delivered 12,981 units in February 2014, representing a 7 percent decline on an annual basis. Chevrolet and GMC sales were down, while those of Buick and Cadillac were up.
February sales highlights (vs. February 2013):
Chevrolet sales down 15 percent to 7,567 units
Buick sales up 88 percent to 1,174 units, led by Encore
GMC sales up 6 percent to 3,659 units
Cadillac sales up 35 percent to 581 units
Sales of the Chevrolet Trax were up 14 percent and sales of the Chevrolet Equinox were up 23 percent for the month
Sales of the GMC Acadia were up 7 percent for the month
Cadillac retail sales increased by 27 percent for the month, marking the 17th consecutive month of retail sales growth over the same month of the previous year
“Canadian customers are embracing the luxury, style, versatility and technology of Buick’s new product line-up,” said Bob McClelland, director, vehicle marketing, GM Canada. “In February, Buick sales were up 88 per cent, driven by the compact, urban-friendly Verano and Encore.”
The automaker is looking forward to the launch of its all-new 2015 model year SUVs, as well as heavy duty pickup trucks, and midsize pickups.
Although hardly failing, GM does have some issues here in Canada. And I wonder what they’re doing to address them? And must be especially frustrating as a dealer.
For some reason the brands have taking a real knock, especially after the Bailout. I drive a Cadillac ATS in Toronto. It stands out like crazy as you don’t see very many. Anyone who knows me and checks out my car absolutely loves it, but 99% of them will still buy a Benz BMW Audi Lexus ahead of these cars as they don’t have the same cache. It’s even worse with Buick, which I believe are building some beautiful cars now.
I looked at the Buick regal GS over and over and over as I think it’s a much nice looking car and even my ATS. But in the end in Canada I would’ve been driving an old man’s car if you will, And wasn’t worth the price.
It seems and I’m not 100% sure, but it seems that Jim is losing market share here. This is at a time when they’re building some of the best cars on the road bar none. Perhaps it is time to seriously rethink how General Motors sells cars in Canada. And who is responsible for it. Something is clearly not working right has with the portfolio Gm has right now, there has been no better time to grow market share here.
I have not seen a single CTS on the road outside of Oshawa. And that was only one . This is the car of the year!?
This is a personal thing for me. Much of my family is employed at General Motors or retired and dependent on pension. I was raised in a gm family, so I want them to do well even subconsciously! The cars are there and should be selling. They definitely need to switch things up and make them relevant here in Canada with the general population.
My family always owned GM cars and so did I. I’m shopping for a Cruze, I think it’s a nice car but I recently compared a Cruze LT1 it to a Corolla S and that Toyota offers: 17″ wheels, fog lights, sunroof, heated leather seats, LCD screen and rearview camera for roughly $500 more than Cruze LT1… To get just some of these options I should upgrade to the LT2 Cruze which is priced way too high and I would still need to add $1000 to get fog lights and sunroof.

I’am disappointed at GM Canada prices.
