Chevrolet and GMC dealers launched the Business Elite program as a way to provide its business customers with a top-notch experience from the moment “they enter Chevrolet or GMC dealerships through the lifecycle of the vehicles they purchase.” Seventy-four dealers—that’s 526 Business Elite dealers in total—have been added to the network in the past year, helping General Motors meet the unique needs of this specialized customer
One of those customers is Billy Jones, owner of a private security firm that has 52 vehicles in his fleet. He related to General Motors, “I see the same faces every time I go into the dealership. They know me and they know my business. It’s reassuring that my dealer has a commercial sales team that understands what I need and offers advice I can trust.”
Dealers who participate in the Business Elite program have sales consultants that are equipped to help customers find the right vehicle for their business needs. A good selection of commercial vehicles are kept in stock, and proper facilities are maintained by the service department so that technicians can be poised to attend to the business customers’ respective needs. The sales consultants also help inform commercial customers of the benefits offered through GM’s Business Choice program for small businesses.
Every Business Elite service department has the facilities, tools, equipment and certified technicians to accommodate the business customer’s specific needs, including priority service and hours, round-the-clock towing, work-ready loaner vehicles, special financing and leasing options, and business vehicle remarketing and no-hassle disposal.
But Business Elite doesn’t exist solely to support the customer—the vendor also benefits. According to dealer Uebelhor & Sons in Jasper, IN, “You have a separate representative from GM who’s calling on you and has the knowledge about commercial customers to advise you,” said Tony Uebelhor, whose grandfather opened the dealership in 1929. “And if you have issues–anything from inventory to incentives– they’re there to help you.”

It’s a good program, but without a line of competitive chassis-cab commercial trucks (particularly medium duty) it really is of limited interest to many fleets. A large number of fleets do not consider GM anymore when they can go to a Ford or Dodge/Ram dealer that offers sales and service of everything from compact cars to medium duty trucks. This kind of ‘one stop shopping’ is something that GM can’t offer.
